Amaranth Extract (Amaranthus Caudatus Seed Extract): Rutin from the Seed for Anti-Aging Formulations
The amaranth extract (INCI: Amaranthus Caudatus Seed Extract) is derived from the seeds of Amaranthus caudatus and delivers rutin, a documented flavonoid glycoside, as its key marker. CONIUNCTA® offers this liquid extract in three carrier variants: Pentylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, and Glycerin. This allows the ingredient to be flexibly incorporated into a variety of aqueous cosmetic systems and, in the glycerin variant, into functional foods and beverages as well. The extract is of conventional quality and suitable for all cosmetic applications mentioned. Rutin as an Analytically Verified Key Marker At the centre of the phytochemical profile is rutin, a flavonoid glycoside that, according to the CDS, is present in the product at an indicative concentration of 25 to 95 µg/mL. Rutin belongs to the class of polyphenols and serves as an analytical reference point for the characterisation of the extract. No further compounds are listed in the datasheet as analytically confirmed constituents. Squalene is mentioned in the dossier solely in the context of literature-based effect descriptions and is not documented as a confirmed constituent of the extract. Documented Efficacy Profile for Skin Care Based on the phytochemical profile and published literature, the cosmetic properties documented for the amaranth extract include anti-ageing, balancing, conditioning, and skin-plumping. The CDS lists NF-kB, collagen synthesis, and the glucocorticoid receptor as cosmetic targets. These specifications provide formulators with a starting point for positioning the extract purposefully in care and pro-age concepts. The keywords maintained in the Shopify meta field (nourishing, mineralising, conditioning) serve exclusively as thematic orientation and do not constitute independently substantiated claims. Three Carrier Variants for Different Systems According to the TDS, the glycerin variant consists of approximately 70% glycerin and around 30% extract fraction; purified water serves as the extraction solvent and does not remain as a residual solvent in the final product. The propylene glycol variant is composed of approximately 40% water, 30% extract, and 30% propylene glycol. The pentylene glycol variant uses a pentylene glycol/water blend as the standardisation medium. Across all variants, the extract content is approximately 30%. This allows the most suitable variant to be selected depending on the formulation objective and preservation concept. Use Concentration and Application Fields For cosmetic applications, the product datasheet states a general use concentration of 2 to 5%; the CDS additionally lists a recommended range of 1 to 3% for the at-a-glance overview. For functional foods and beverages, a range of 0.5 to 2% is documented, with the glycerin variant designated for food applications. The CDS lists metabolic health and the reduction of oxidative stress as food targets. Binding questions regarding formulation and dosage are addressed individually by our technical team. Further classic plant extracts can be found in our category overview. Specification, Storage, and Safety The extract presents as a clear to amber to light brown liquid with a characteristic colour; the relative density ranges between 1.03 and 1.06. The shelf life is 24 months when stored dry between 10 and 30 °C in the original sealed container. During storage, temperature-dependent colour changes, turbidity, or precipitation may occur; filtration is then possible without any effect on quality. According to the SDS, the product is not a hazardous substance under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 and is not classified as dangerous goods under ADR/RID, IMDG, or IATA. The complete technical documents (TDS, SDS, CDS) are made available to registered customers. Sourcing and Documentation at CONIUNCTA® The amaranth extract is suited for formulators and product developers seeking a rutin-characterised seed extract with a documented anti-ageing and conditioning profile in flexibly selectable carrier systems.
