Alfalfa powder extract 10:1 (INCI: Medicago Sativa Extract, CAS 84082-36-0) is a plant-based dry extract from alfalfa (Medicago sativa). The analytical lead marker is triterpene saponins, specifically the medicagenic acid glycosides. The extract is obtained from the whole plant and supplied as a fine powder for cosmetic and food formulations.
Production
The raw material is extracted from the whole plant with ethanol and water and concentrated at a ratio of 10:1. It is supplied as a powder on a maltodextrin carrier base. The product is listed at CONIUNCTA and marked as Designed in Germany.

Use in cosmetics
The recommended use level in cosmetic formulations is 2 to 5 %. The extract is readily water-soluble and can be incorporated into aqueous phases. The cosmetic claim listed under EU Regulation 655/2013 is Detoxifying; the regulatory framework for cosmetic use is EU Regulation 1223/2009. Alongside the triterpene saponins, the data sheet documents medicarpin as well as vitamins K and C as constituents.
Use in food
For food applications such as functional food and beverages, the data sheet states a use level of 0.5 to 2 %. The extract is vegan and unpreserved.
