Marigold Oil Extract is the oily, lipophilic extract form of marigold (Calendula officinalis) with the INCI name Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract (CAS 84776-23-8). The calendula extract contains lipophilic flower constituents such as triterpenoids (faradiol), carotenoids and flavonoids; faradiol esters are specified as the primary marker. It is used in oil-based and emulsified cosmetic formulations.
Production
The extract is obtained with CONIUNCTA's Adaptive Vacuum Extraction (AVE), Made in Germany. The oil extract is available in three carrier variants: jojoba oil (Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil), squalane or sunflower oil (Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil). Regardless of the variant, the extract content is around 30 percent; one kilogram of extract contains the lipophilic constituents of approximately 35 g of dried or 220 g of fresh plant material.

Use in cosmetics
The recommended usage concentration is 1 to 5 percent. As an oil-soluble extract, Marigold Oil Extract is suitable for anhydrous and emulsified systems such as creams, balms, lip care, body and massage oils as well as formulations for sensitive skin care and baby care. The raw material falls under the Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009.
Use in food
For food applications, the sunflower oil variant is intended; the ingredient declaration is accordingly sunflower oil. The dosage depends on the respective recipe.
