Reishi Extract (INCI: Ganoderma Lucidum Extract) is a water-based plant extract from the mushroom Ganoderma lucidum (CAS 223751-82-4). The extract provides beta-glucans and polysaccharides and is used as a cosmetic raw material for aqueous formulations.
Manufacturing
Reishi Extract is produced by Adaptive Vacuum Extraction (AVE). It is available in three carrier variants: Glycerin, Propylene Glycol or Pentylene Glycol, each on a water base (Aqua). The extract content is around 30%. One kilogram of extract contains the hydrophilic constituents of approx. 30 g of dried plant material. Production: Made in Germany.

Use in cosmetics
Recommended use concentration: 2 to 5%. The extract is readily soluble in water and can be incorporated into aqueous systems. The content of fragrance allergens according to Annex III of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 cannot be derived from the available data; analysis on request (GC-MS or HPLC). Reishi Extract is used in formulations for anti-ageing and mature skin and soothing care, for example in serums, regenerating night care and products for sensitive skin. Its astringent and pore-refining properties are used in these applications.
Use in food
The Glycerin variant can be used under food law. The extract is obtained from the fruiting body; the EU Novel Food Catalogue (POL-NF-00372) lists the fruiting body as not novel. The Propylene Glycol and Pentylene Glycol variants are intended for cosmetics only.
