FAQ
FAQ
Please read our FAQ.
Silver Coat Extract, also known as lady's mantle extract, is an aqueous plant extract from the leaves of Alchemilla vulgaris (INCI: Alchemilla Vulgaris Leaf Extract). The extract contains high concentrations of tannins, flavonoids and salicylic acid. The primary markers are ellagitannins, calculated as ellagic acid. The tannins give the raw material its astringent properties.
Manufacturing
CONIUNCTA produces the extract using AVE technology (Adaptive Vacuum Extraction), Made in Germany. The available carriers are glycerin, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol, and the preservation is glycol based. The extract content is around 30 percent in all variants: 1 kg of extract contains the hydrophilic or lipophilic components of about 35 g of dried or about 220 g of fresh plant parts. Because the extract is obtained in water, it is free from essential oils and therefore free from declarable fragrance allergens. The raw material comes from Europe and other growing regions, with material from certified organic cultivation preferred.

Use in cosmetics
The recommended use concentration is 2 to 5 percent. Lady's mantle extract is used in firming and astringent formulations, for example in bust care, body lotions, firming gels, pro-age and anti-aging care, and after-care products. Thanks to its good water solubility, the extract can be incorporated directly into aqueous systems. All three carrier variants are suitable for cosmetic applications.
Use in food
Silver Coat Extract is a raw material for the cosmetics and food industries. For food applications, the glycerin based variant is intended. Depending on the variant, the declarable ingredient is glycerin, or water with propylene glycol or pentylene glycol.
Frequently asked questions
Is Silver Coat the same as lady's mantle?
Yes. Silver Coat and lady's mantle are two names for the same plant, Alchemilla vulgaris. The extract carries the INCI name Alchemilla Vulgaris Leaf Extract.
In which carrier variants is Alchemilla Vulgaris Leaf Extract available?
The extract is available in glycerin, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol. All variants are suitable for cosmetics, and the glycerin variant for food.
Is lady's mantle extract water soluble?
Yes, the extract is readily soluble in water and is therefore suitable for aqueous formulations.
How long is the extract stable?
When stored dry between 10 and 30 °C in the originally sealed container, the shelf life is 24 months. A change in color during storage is possible. If turbidity or precipitates form, they can be filtered off without affecting the quality of the product.
