The neem tree (Azadirachta Indica) is among the botanical raw materials of equal interest to formulators in both cosmetics and food. The Neem Leaf Extract with the INCI designation Azadirachta Indica Leaf Extract is obtained by CONIUNCTA® from the leaf and produced by water-based extraction. It is available in three carrier variants: glycerin, propylene glycol, and pentylene glycol/water. As a liquid raw material with an extract content of around 30%, it can be incorporated into aqueous and diol-containing systems, thereby addressing a range of formulation requirements.
What is Azadirachta Indica Leaf Extract?
Azadirachta Indica Leaf Extract refers to an extract obtained from the leaves of the neem tree. The starting material is explicitly the leaf (Neem Leaf), not the seed or the seed kernel oil. This distinction is regulatory relevant: the restriction under EC 1223/2009 Annex II, Entry 1603, applies exclusively to Seed Kernel Extract and not to the Leaf Extract described here. Extraction is carried out with purified water; the extract is then offered in the respective standardization medium (glycerin or diol/water). The drug-to-extract ratio (DPR) of the extract fraction is 1:10 (dried). The product is of plant origin and suitable for vegan formulations.
