Alkanet Extract (INCI: Alkanna Tinctoria Root Extract) is a liquid extract from the root of dyer's alkanet (Alkanna tinctoria). Alkannin and shikonin are red naphthoquinone dyes that have been used for coloring since antiquity. In the cosmetics industry, the extract serves as a natural red colorant, among other uses for lip care and decorative products.
Production
CONIUNCTA produces the extract using AVE technology (Adaptive Vacuum Extraction), Made in Germany. Glycerin or water with propylene glycol or pentylene glycol are available as carriers. Regardless of the variant, the extract content is around 30 percent: 1 kg of extract contains the hydrophilic constituents of about 30 g of dried plant parts. The raw material comes from Europe and the rest of the world, with regional certified organic material preferred.
