FAQ
FAQ
Please read our FAQ.
Ash Extract (Fraxinus Excelsior Bark Extract) is a liquid extract obtained from the bark of the common ash (Fraxinus excelsior). The INCI name is Fraxinus Excelsior Bark Extract, the CAS number 84625-28-5. Esculin serves as the lead marker. CONIUNCTA supplies the raw material to the cosmetics and food industries.
Production
The extract is obtained by Adaptive Vacuum Extraction (AVE) and produced in Germany (Made in Germany). It is available in three water-based carrier variants: glycerin, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol. The extract content is around 30% regardless of the variant. 1 kg of extract contains the hydrophilic constituents of about 35 g of dried or roughly 220 g of fresh plant material.

Use in cosmetics
The recommended use concentration is 2 to 5%. Ash Extract contributes astringent, balancing, moisturizing and protective properties to the formulation and is used with a focus on skin elasticity. The extract is free from essential oils and therefore free from declarable fragrance allergens, which makes it attractive for low-fragrance formulations. Thanks to its good water solubility, it can be incorporated into the water phase of leave-on and rinse-off products. All carrier variants are suitable for cosmetic applications.
Use in food
The glycerin variant is intended for food applications. Ingredient labeling is carried out in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 (Food Information to Consumers).
