Basil Extract (INCI: Ocimum Basilicum (Basil) Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, CAS 84775-71-3) is a liquid plant extract obtained from the Mediterranean herb basil. Its primary marker is water-soluble rosmarinic acid. The raw material is vegan and is offered for applications in the cosmetics and food industries.
Production
The extract is obtained by Adaptive Vacuum Extraction (AVE) and manufactured in Germany (Made in Germany). It is available in the carrier variants glycerin, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol and is preserved on a glycol basis. The extract content is around 30 percent. One kilogram of extract contains the hydrophilic constituents of around 35 g of dried or around 220 g of fresh plant parts.

Use in cosmetics
The usage concentration is 2 to 5 percent. The aqueous extract is free from essential oils and therefore free from declarable fragrance allergens. It is used in clarifying facial care for oily skin, in hair care and in antioxidant formulations. All carrier variants are suitable for cosmetic use.
