Application in cosmetics
The usage level is 5-10 %. In formulations, BIOLISSE® Pentylene Glycol performs several functions at once: it serves as a humectant, solubilizer and preservative booster. From a concentration of 5 %, the alkanediol acts against bacteria, yeasts and molds, enabling preservative-reduced formulations.
Typical applications include facial care, serums, body lotions and sensitive natural cosmetics, for example in products with a balancing, nourishing or moisturizing focus. The microbiological quality is tested according to ISO methods: the total viable count is below 10 per gram, and specified organisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans are not detectable.
