FAQ
FAQ
Please read our FAQ.
BIOLISSE® Squalane (INCI: Squalane, CAS 111-01-3) is a plant-derived squalane from olive (Olea europaea). According to the CDS, the clear, odorless, oily liquid consists of 100% Squalane (C30H62) and contains neither a carrier system nor solvents. For formulators, this defined pure substance is a reliably plannable, sensorially neutral lipophilic building block for cosmetics.
Production
BIOLISSE® Squalane is produced by hydrogenating squalene from olive oil. Hydrogenation makes the hydrocarbon stable against oxidation. Unlike a botanical extract blend, this single substance carries no variable accompanying matrix: formulation development receives a reproducible, clearly characterized component. The raw material is supplied undiluted and without a carrier system.

Application in cosmetics
The CDS documents a use concentration of 1 to 10%, while the TDS states a technical range of 1 to 100%. Squalane spreads exceptionally well and creates non-greasy, silky textures. Because the substance is odorless and sensorially discreet, it does not mask the character of a formulation. Typical fields of application include facial care, eye serums, lip care and pro-age concepts. The raw material is compatible with emulsions, anhydrous systems and oil serums.
The CDS lists the following cosmetic properties for Squalane: moisturizing, moisture-promoting, skin conditioning, barrier-strengthening, balancing, a plumped skin appearance and pro-age. The molecular structure resembles natural skin lipids.
Frequently asked questions
Squalane oil: what is it?
Squalane is a saturated hydrocarbon (C30H62) that occurs as a colorless, odorless, oily liquid. BIOLISSE® Squalane is obtained from olive oil and is not an extract blend but a defined pure substance. In formulations it serves as a lipophilic component with a neutral sensory profile.
What is the CAS number of Squalane?
Squalane carries the CAS number 111-01-3. The INCI name is Squalane and remains unchanged in the declaration.
Is BIOLISSE® Squalane vegan and organic?
The product is documented as suitable for vegan formulations. It is conventional quality. BIOLISSE® Squalane does not hold organic certification.
How do I store squalane and what is its shelf life?
In the original sealed container and stored dry between 10 and 30 °C, the shelf life is 24 months. According to the SDS, the product is not classified as a hazardous substance or as dangerous goods. It is categorized as a combustible liquid with a flash point of 218 °C (storage class 10 according to TRGS 510). A tightly closed container is recommended, protected from light, moisture, direct sunlight and strong oxidizing agents.
Are quantities such as 100 kg available and which documents are provided?
The product is supplied in plastic containers. Request tiered quantities and bulk sizes such as 100 kg via your B2B account, B2B terms after login. TDS, SDS and CDS are available for download, and the certificate of analysis (CoA) is available per batch on request.
