FAQ
FAQ

Ginger Extract (INCI: Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract, CAS 84696-15-1) is an aqueous liquid extract from ginger root with 6-gingerol as its lead marker. In addition to gingerols, the extract contains shogaols and polysaccharides, the water-soluble pungent compounds of the root. As a raw material for the cosmetics and food industries, it is aimed at formulators looking for a documented Ginger Root Extract with a clear specification.
Production
The extract is produced in Germany using AVE technology (Adaptive Vacuum Extraction). Three carrier variants are available: glycerin, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol, each combined with water. The extract content is approx. 30 percent regardless of the variant. 1 kg of extract contains the hydrophilic or lipophilic constituents of approx. 35 g of dried or approx. 220 g of fresh plant material.
Specification
- INCI: Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract
- CAS number: 84696-15-1
- Appearance: clear, pale yellow liquid, sometimes with slight turbidity
- Solubility: readily soluble in water
- Carrier: glycerin, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol; glycol-based preservation
- Origin: Europe and the rest of the world, certified organic material is preferred
- Vegan: yes
- Shelf life: 24 months when stored dry between 10 and 30 °C in the original sealed container
Use in cosmetics
All carrier variants are suitable for cosmetic formulations. The recommended use level is 2-5%. The aqueous extract is free from essential oils and therefore free from declarable fragrance allergens. The raw material is used in warming body care, as the gingerols it contains activate heat receptors in the skin. Typical formulations include massage products, body gels, anti-cellulite products and hair care.
Use in food
The glycerin carrier variant is intended for food applications. The regulatory status of ginger is documented as a food or spice. Processing is purely technical as a liquid, water-soluble ingredient; effect-related claims are the responsibility of the party placing the product on the market.
Frequently asked questions
Which carrier variant is the right one?
All three variants are suitable for cosmetics: glycerin, propylene glycol and pentylene glycol. The glycerin variant is intended for food. A separate TDS is available for each variant.
Is ginger extract water-soluble?
Yes, the extract is readily soluble in water and comes as a clear liquid. Slight turbidity or precipitation may occur during storage. This can be removed by filtration and has no effect on quality.
What is the lead marker in the Ginger Root Extract?
The lead marker is 6-gingerol. The aqueous extract also contains shogaols and polysaccharides.
Is the extract vegan?
Yes, the extract is vegan. Certified organic raw material is preferred.
Which documents are available?
A TDS is available for each carrier variant, along with a shared SDS and the certificate of analysis for the batch. The documents can be accessed after login, B2B terms on request. The delivery time is 7 to 14 days.
