Horse chestnut extract (INCI: Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Seed Extract, CAS 8053-39-2) is a water-soluble plant extract from the seeds of the horse chestnut. Its primary marker is aescin, a triterpene saponin; the extract also contains flavonoids and proanthocyanidins. Internationally, the raw material is also listed as Horse Chestnut Extract or horse chestnut seed extract.
Production
CONIUNCTA obtains horse chestnut extract using Adaptive Vacuum Extraction (AVE) and produces it Made in Germany. The extract content is around 30% per variant. One kilogram of extract contains the hydrophilic constituents of about 35 g of dried or around 220 g of fresh plant parts. Glycerin, propylene glycol and pentylene glycol are available as carriers; preservation is glycol-based.

In cosmetic formulations, horse chestnut extract is typically used at 2 to 5%. The registered cosmetic properties are balancing, moisture-promoting and circulation-stimulating. The aqueous extract is free from essential oils and therefore free from fragrance allergens subject to declaration.
