FAQ

Iris extract (INCI: Iris Germanica Root Extract) is a liquid plant extract obtained from the rhizome of the German iris (Iris germanica). The extract contains irones with their characteristic violet-like scent profile, as well as isoflavones (irigenin, iridin) and starch. Known as iris root or orris root, this raw material is mainly used in perfumery and skin care.
Production
The extract is obtained using CONIUNCTA's Adaptive Vacuum Extraction (AVE) and is made in Germany. It is available in three carrier variants: based on glycerin, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol. The aqueous extract is free of essential oils and therefore free of fragrance allergens subject to declaration. Regardless of the variant, the extract content is approximately 30%.

Cosmetic applications
Iris extract is intended exclusively for the cosmetics industry. The typical use concentration is 2 to 5%. Thanks to the violet-like scent profile of the irones, the raw material is used in perfumery, in luxury skin care and traditionally in oral care. In skin care formulations it is used for skin-conditioning and moisturising products as well as in the anti-ageing segment. The extract is not suitable for food use.
