FAQ
FAQ
Please read our FAQ.
Lemon balm extract (INCI: Melissa Officinalis Extract, CAS 84082-61-1) is an aqueous liquid extract from Melissa officinalis for the cosmetics and food industries. The extract contains rosmarinic acid, flavonoids and triterpenes as water-soluble marker compounds. The raw material is also known simply as Melissa extract.
Production
CONIUNCTA produces the extract in Germany using Adaptive Vacuum Extraction (AVE). The aqueous extraction works without essential oils, so the extract is free from declarable fragrance allergens. Available carriers are glycerin or water with propylene glycol or pentylene glycol. The extract content is approx. 30% regardless of the variant: 1 kg of extract contains the constituents of approx. 35 g of dried or approx. 220 g of fresh plant material.

The glycerin carrier variant is intended for food applications. Lemon balm is traditionally established as a tea in the food sector, and its marketability is confirmed.
Frequently asked questions
What is Melissa Officinalis Extract?
Melissa Officinalis Extract is the INCI name for lemon balm extract, also known as Melissa extract. It is obtained from lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), and its marker compounds are rosmarinic acid, flavonoids and triterpenes.
Is lemon balm extract water soluble?
Yes. The extract dissolves readily in water and is incorporated via the water phase of the formulation.
Which carrier variant is suitable for food?
The variant with glycerin as carrier is intended for food. In cosmetics, all variants can be used: glycerin, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol.
What is the shelf life of the extract?
Stored dry between 10 and 30 °C in the original sealed container, the shelf life is 24 months. The color may change during storage. If turbidity or precipitation occurs, simple filtration is sufficient and the quality remains unaffected.
Which documents are available?
A technical data sheet (TDS) is available for each carrier variant, along with the safety data sheet (SDS). Certificates of analysis and B2B conditions are available after login.
