FAQ
FAQ
Please read our FAQ.
Lemon Extract (INCI: Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract) is a liquid botanical extract obtained from the lemon fruit (Citrus limon). The aqueous lemon extract contains vitamin C (ascorbic acid), citric acid, the flavonoids eriocitrin and hesperidin, and limonene. It is free from essential oils and therefore free from declarable fragrance allergens.
Production
CONIUNCTA produces the extract in Germany using AVE technology (Adaptive Vacuum Extraction). Three carrier variants are available: glycerin, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol, each in combination with water. The extract content is approx. 30 percent regardless of the variant. 1 kg of extract contains the hydrophilic or lipophilic constituents of approx. 35 g of dried or approx. 220 g of fresh plant material.

Application in cosmetics
The recommended use level is 2 to 5 percent. All carrier variants are suitable for cosmetic formulations. Lemon extract is used in formulations for brightening, clarifying facial care and refreshing body products. The fruit acids it contains support gentle peeling formulations. Typical product types include toners, peelings and hand creams. For leave-on products, possible photosensitization caused by furanocoumarins should be taken into account.
Application in food
The glycerin variant is intended for food applications, the ingredient is declared as glycerin in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011. In the food sector, lemon is established as a fruit juice, acidifier and flavoring, and its use in beverages, baked goods and confectionery is documented.
