Ribwort Plantain Extract (Plantago Lanceolata Extract) - Aucubin-containing respiratory and wound healing traditional raw material (CAS: 85085-64-9)
INCI: Plantago Lanceolata Extract. Ribwort plantain extract (Plantago lanceolata, CAS 85085-64-9) contains iridoid glycosides (aucubin), mucilage, tannins and silicic acid. This combination defines the soothing, antibacterial and wound-healing properties.
Application in the cosmetics industry
The aqueous extract is free from essential oils and therefore free from declarable fragrance allergens. In the cosmetics industry, ribwort plantain extract is used for soothing skin care, after-sun and wound-healing formulations. The aucubin provides antibacterial and regenerative effects. Typical applications include after-sun, insect bite products, lip care and wound ointments.
Use in the food industry
In the phytotherapeutic field, ribwort plantain is widely established for respiratory diseases and coughs. The ESCOP monograph documents its expectorant effect. Ribwort syrup is traditionally known as a cough remedy. Regulatory status: Traditional medicinal product.
