FAQ
FAQ

Sage Extract (INCI: Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, CAS 84082-79-1) is an aqueous plant extract obtained from the leaves of common sage (Salvia officinalis). The sage extract contains rosmarinic acid as its lead marker, along with carnosolic acid, tannins and flavonoids. These water-soluble polyphenols shape the astringent profile of the raw material.
Production
CONIUNCTA produces the aqueous sage extract in Germany (Made in Germany) using Adaptive Vacuum Extraction (AVE). The raw material is free from essential oils and therefore free from declarable fragrance allergens. It is available in three carrier variants: glycerin, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol. Regardless of the variant, the extract content is around 30%. One kilogram of extract contains the hydrophilic constituents of around 35 g of dried or around 220 g of fresh plant material.
Specification
- INCI: Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract

Use in cosmetics
The typical use concentration is 2 to 5%. All carrier variants are suitable for cosmetic formulations. Owing to its astringent properties, sage extract is used in deodorants, deodorant sprays, astringent skin care, foot care and mouthwashes. Since the aqueous extract is readily water soluble, it can easily be incorporated into the water phase.
Use in food
The glycerin carrier variant is intended for food applications. Depending on the carrier variant, the ingredient is declared as: glycerin or (water, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol).
