Thyme Extract (INCI: Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract) is a plant extract from common thyme (Thymus vulgaris, CAS 84929-51-1). The primary marker is thymol. The extract contains water-soluble constituents such as flavonoids, rosmarinic acid, tannins and triterpenes and is offered as a raw material for cosmetics and for food.
Production
CONIUNCTA obtains the Thyme Extract using Adaptive Vacuum Extraction (AVE), Made in Germany. The extract is available in three carrier variants: glycerin, propylene glycol and pentylene glycol. Preservation is glycol-based. Across all variants, the extract content is around 30%. One kilogram of extract contains the hydrophilic constituents of roughly 35 g of dried or about 220 g of fresh plant material.

Use in cosmetics
The recommended use concentration is 2 to 5%. The extract is free of essential oils and therefore free of declarable fragrance allergens. All carrier variants are suitable for cosmetic formulations. Typical fields of use are formulations for blemished and problem skin, foot care products as well as oral care and mouthwashes. The raw material falls under the Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009.
