FAQ
FAQ
Please read our FAQ.
Tormentil Extract is an aqueous-glycolic root extract from Potentilla erecta (tormentil), INCI Potentilla Erecta Root Extract, CAS 90083-09-3. Its lead markers are the catechin and gallocatechin tannins, which give the raw material its astringent properties. CONIUNCTA supplies the extract as a liquid extract for the cosmetics and food industries.
Production
The extract is obtained by Adaptive Vacuum Extraction (AVE technology) and is Made in Germany. The extract content is around 30 percent regardless of the variant. One kilogram of extract contains the hydrophilic constituents of about 35 g of dried or about 220 g of fresh plant parts. Three carrier variants are available: glycerin, propylene glycol and pentylene glycol. Preservation is glycol based.

The recommended use concentration is 2 to 5 percent. Thanks to its tannins, Tormentil Extract shows astringent properties and is used in pore-refining, conditioning and moisturising formulations. As an aqueous-glycolic extract it is free from essential oils and therefore free from declarable fragrance allergens. Typical formulations include after-shave, oral and dental care as well as foot care. All carrier variants are suitable for cosmetic applications.
Use in food
The glycerin variant is suitable for the food industry. The ingredient is declared as glycerin or as water, propylene glycol or pentylene glycol. CONIUNCTA lists Tormentil Extract as a raw material for the cosmetics and food industries.
