FAQ

Horehound Extract (INCI: Marrubium Vulgare Extract) is a liquid plant extract from white horehound (Marrubium vulgare), a member of the mint family with downy grey-green leaves. The analytical lead marker is acteoside (verbascoside), a phenylethanoid glycoside. CONIUNCTA offers the raw material in three carrier variants for cosmetic and food formulations.
Production
The extract is obtained using CONIUNCTA's Adaptive Vacuum Extraction (AVE), Made in Germany. The extraction solvent is purified water; the extract content is around 30% regardless of the variant. Three carriers are available: glycerin, propylene glycol and pentylene glycol. The glycerin variant is additionally intended for food applications.

The aqueous extract is free of essential oils and therefore free of fragrance allergens subject to declaration under Annex III of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. Typical formulations are facial toners and clarifying masks.
Use in food
For food applications, the glycerin carrier variant is intended. The CDS states a use concentration of 0.5 to 2% in functional food and beverages.
